How to Pack Pillows & Bedding for Moving
Pillows and bedding seem simple to throw in a bag, but a little prep keeps them clean, uncrushed and ready to use the moment you unpack -- instead of flat, dusty, or smelling like the inside of a moving truck.

Plus CashStart With Clean, Dry Pillows and Bedding
Wash whatever's machine-washable before packing it -- it keeps odors and dust from settling in over what might be days in a box. For pillows or comforters that can't be machine washed, spot clean them and make sure they're completely dry before they get sealed into a bag or box; packing anything damp is how you end up with mildew on the other end.
Protect Delicate Fillings
Down and memory foam pillows are more sensitive than standard fiberfill. A pillow protector or a layer of breathable fabric adds a second line of defense against dust and spills in transit, and it's worth the extra couple of minutes for anything you'd be upset to replace.
Vacuum Bags vs. Boxes
Which method makes sense depends on the trip and what you're packing.
A Few Things That Make a Real Difference
Use clean, dry boxes -- a damp or dirty box defeats the purpose of washing everything first. Don't overpack a box past what it can hold without straining the seams. And label clearly: "Bedding" or "Pillows" on the side means these boxes get handled gently and unpacked first, instead of getting buried under everything else.
